As long as anyone can remember, the Lycanthropes have been around as well as the Vampyres. While vampires are far superior in intellect, werewolves are superior when it comes to sheer strength. Werewolves appear somewhat bulky- opposite of vampires, who are very lean. And while vampires appear more feline, werewolves appear more canine.
Werewolves are not immortal, but they can live to be very old if they are careful. Pure blood Lycanthropes, werewolves who inherited the Lycanthropy virus through their parents can live to be up to 1000 years old, while Tainted Lycanthropes, or bitten werewolves, can live to be up to 500 years old.
Most Werewolves will appear as they did as humans, but with a little more muscle to them. When angered (which could be more then often) werewolves will snarl and growl under their breath, and their eyes will turn more golden the more their wolf side takes over.
As vampires are allergic to UV rays, Lycans are allergic to silver. Although it is not lethal to Pure Bloods, it is to bitten wolves if it hits critical spots of vital organs. Pureblood werewolves can heal other werewolves' wounds with their blood, but bitten wolves cannot. Wolf's Bane does not kill werewolves either. It merely makes them goofy as cats to catnip.
Werewolves are divided into packs, with the Alpha male and his mate as the leaders, and the Alphas second and third- his two Betas. This is the chain of command. Females get their ranking from their mates, usually, and unmated females are represented by their parents, or the Alpha. Usually packs are ruled by a male, but there have been some cases where females have successfully led a pack on their own. All werewolf packs in North America are ruled by one Alpha called the Marrok. He is in charge of all the packs' welfare, and his word is law.
Werewolves can breed, but it is highly unlikely the child will survive due to the full moon causing females to miscarriage. If the baby's parents are both Pure Bloods, and he is produced on or right after the full moon, he has an 80% chance of surviving. If it is not a full moon, like around the new moon, he has a 60% chance of surviving. If the baby's parents are not Pure Bloods, and he is produced on or right after the full moon, he has a 60% chance of surviving. If it is not a full moon, he has a 45% chance of surviving. Even if the baby survives being born, it may not even survive the first year. Pure Bloods can only be produced if they have a Pure Blood parent. When pureblood Werewolves are born, they do not change until their first full moon after their 13th birthday. For bitten wolves, they change their first full moon after their attack.
To be turned into a werewolf, it does not take a simple bite to be turned. It takes an attack so savage that the victim lies in a near-death situation so that the Lycanthropy virus can pass in to their immune system.
To shape-shift, or change forms, werewolves do not need the full moon. They can change at will anytime after their first full moon, and that change can take anywhere from 2 minutes to 2 hours, depending on their experience, willpower, and strength. Although they do not need the moon to change, werewolves must change every full moon-they cannot resist it. If they do try, they become very sick, with symptoms similar to the flu. Eventually, when the wolf is very vulnerable from the sickness, they will change.
When werewolves are newly bitten, if they do not have an Alpha or someone more naturally dominant than them nearby on their first moon, they will most likely go rabid.
